Swyrl

Swyrl is a self-serve frozen yogurt spot in Lynbrook, Long Island, not far from where ABF lives. We've gone there twice now with his family, usually a niece or two or three in tow, and it's definitely delicious.

It's like Red Mango and Pinkberry, but with a slightly different shtick. Their gimmick is that you do everything yourself, from pouring the yogurt to adding the toppings. They charge you by weight, so it's up to you to decide how much (or little) you'll get. The cups are HUGE, so of course they count on people filling them to capacity, but this chick isn't falling for that trick.;)

They have a rotating roster of flavors, and you can also get a swirl of the 2 flavors at each machine, but my favorite by far is the plain (tart) version. You just can't beat it--imagine taking your favorite plain Greek yogurt and sticking it in the freezer for a few hours. This is what it tastes like, and I love it. The other flavors aren't quite so yogurty, and taste more like regular soft-serve.

I decided to get a little 'crazy' and try a bit of the peanut butter and the Italian coffee. The coffee flavor was pretty weak and I wouldn't bother getting it again, but the peanut butter was pretty darn tasty.. I liked it almost as much as the plain.

I don't like to get too fancy with toppings, either, although your options are plenty, from fresh fruit to nuts to chopped candies. I always get the fresh raspberries and usually rainbow sprinkles, though they also offer chocolate jimmies!

My only suggestion would be that they make a cup at least one size smaller. These are garguantuan, and it feels odd to have to reach all the way down to scoop out the yogurt when you only get about 4 ounces, which is what I usually get. Otherwise, I love them...Swyrl is a new favorite for me!
